You're The One That I Want - Travolta Afghan

Yes! It's John Travolta from the movie Grease! This was a commissioned afghan by someone for their daughter who loves John Travolta.

It measures approximately 47" by 66", (about the size of a single sized mattress).

Here's another angle. I had to stand on an old tv table to try and get above it.

I used Caron one pounders in white and black and an absolutely gorgeous Periwinkle color in Red Heart.
I used my new size N cabled crochet hook.

Everyone's been saying, "Sign your work! Get labels! Something!" So I went ahead and ordered fabric labels to sew on my things as a way of saying, "Hey! I made this!" (My close-up shots are blurry. Sorry about that.)

And here's a couple of back shots. The back really doesn't look bad at all.

I got the picture of Travolta from a stencil sight. They used a poster of Grease! so I just blew up the picture and cut out Olivia Newton-John and graphed it.

Casey's Afghan

This is my son Casey. He is a wrestler. A really awesome wrestler!

Well, Casey never made it to the finals which begin tonight at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. He lost in the semi-finals. But he will be there tonight and tomorrow to cheer on his team mates who did get there. And he's continued to practice with them so they would be ready for their meets.

I made this afghan last month by using this photo of him which appeared in our local paper...

It is the first time I created my own graph from scratch. Taking the image, messing around with it in my iphoto shop. You have to make it black and white and then fiddle with the sharpness, toner, and a million other options, until you try and filter out all the unnecessary things about the image and have what you think is a good representation of him.

This is what I ended up with before I graphed it at the knitpro website.

I chose blue and gold for the background because those are his school colors. He's wearing the camouflage shirts the whole team has, (with their weight numbers on the back), so I did that in a variegated camouflage yarn. That was a bit strange but I like how it turned out. His eyes are done in ocean Red Heart yarn. He has beautiful eyes.

Once more of the front and then the scary back.

We're so proud of Case and I know he was trying so hard to make it in. I hope he continues to wrestle in college because he really is fun to watch. He's a real fighter!

Mad Tea Party Tote

I was going to call this the Tea -Tote - aler but that looked too weird. LOL!
(All images are clickable for enlargement).

Well, you'd really get noticed carrying this around for sure!!! I did it in tunisian afghan stitch using a long size H hook. No cable this time. It's a dark navy with bold colored yarns too. (The purple is the Wiggles yarn. I thought it would be fun to stick that in as well.

The back is just as wild! Vertical stripes all across. See the button which keeps it closed there? It's a metal teapot-shaped button! I was so happy to find it in my sewing basket, (yes, even I don't know all the stuff I've stashed away. I'm terrible that way. Like a squirrel. LOL!!)

Here's the inside. It's not lined but with the size H hook, it's pretty tight and I think it would hold things very well without fear of stuff falling through or anything. I'm the worst when it comes to sewing in linings so really it's all for the best. I'd only ruin it. Hee hee!

I really love the handle. I made a sort of "tube" and then stuffed it with two plastic shopping bags. Yay! Recycling! It's very soft, sturdy, and comfy.

I had a lot of fun making this during the Superbowl, (and it certainly helped that the Colts won too!!!)

The body of the bag measures 12" x 12" and the handle from end to end is 24" long. I love this bag!

Excuse Me While I Kiss The Sky - Hendrix Afghan

Finally!!!! I got this done!!!!
In honor of Black History Month here in the U.S.,I bring you.......

Jimi Hendrix

(Images are clickable for enlargement).

A while ago when I did my Beatles afghan, someone visiting here asked me if I had a Hendrix graph. Well, after googling around a bit, I found this super-fan-tab-u-lo-sa picture. It was soooo great, I HAD to try it myself.

I had to wait until my son came home from school to hold it up. So the sun was at a very low angle. And it's freeeeeezing out today!!!!

Here's the backside. It looks very scary like he's a zombie or something!!!

The hair was very difficult but I think it was very rewarding as well. The original picture had a hot pink background but I didn't have that color. I'm glad because I really like the neon green. I used the Red Heart warm brown left over from my Hogwarts blanket. It couldn't be too dark so the black would show up.

I just love making these "pop art" looking blankets so much. I was thinking of starting my own business and selling some. But I would only make one of any image. (I really think I would go mad creating the same image over and over again. That's just not right).

I have to think on that some more. I really don't even know where to start. Anyway, hope you all enjoy Jimi. He's very cool!!!
